ATLANTA – October 2015 – The ASIS International Illinois North Shore chapter held its 2nd Annual Officer Appreciation Dinner in October to honor exemplary law enforcement and security officers from the local community. Officer Marissa Knight and Officer Aaron Pennington of U.S. Security Associates were nominees for Officer of the Year in the private security category. U.S. Security Associates is a private security company with more than 160 branches, including four offices serving clients in Northern Illinois.
Both Officer Knight and Officer Pennington are employed at a large retail distribution center served by U.S. Security Associates’ Tinley Park branch. Gregory L. Falkman, the Tinley Park branch manager, nominated Officer Knight because “There is no component of security officer duties more important than the proper execution of life safety procedures, and Officer Knight has repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to life safety. During numerous severe weather situations, Officer Knight has handled her duties extremely well, notifying all personnel and following up to ensure everyone is in a safe location.”
The distribution center’s asset protection manager recommended nominating Officer Pennington too, based on his consistent performance and positive attitude even under adverse weather conditions. As yard auditor at this location in the plains south of Chicago, Officer Pennington regularly faces outdoor extremes from bitter cold and snowfall in winter to to heat, humidity, and thundershowers in summer.
Over 110 ASIS Illinois North Shore chapter members, guests, and law enforcement and security officer professionals attended the Officer Appreciation Dinner. Frank Kaminski, Park Ridge Police Chief and current chairman of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association, was the keynote speaker. Musical entertainment was provided by the Chicago Police Emerald Society Pipe & Drum Corps and color guard by the Lake County Reserve Police.
